A Take on the Classic Plywood Chair

Originally introduced as a more radical derivation of Prostoria’s Oblique family, Oblikant reimagines the archetype of the molded plywood chair. Despite its divergence in technology and typology from its upholstered predecessors, Oblikant preserves the family’s defining S-shaped profile, lending it both sculptural presence and ergonomic performance.

As Nikola Radeljković of Numen/ForUse, the design studio behind Oblikant, explains:

“Oblikant is conceived as a radical version of the classic molded veneer chair. With a broad range of base options, upholstery variants, and functional add-ons, it conceptually bridges the gap between iconic chairs like Arne Jacobsen’s classics and David Rowland’s 40/4 series. The design is deliberately expressive yet refined in its details and humanized for greater usability and visual harmony. That’s the only way we feel justified in adding a new chair of this type to the market.”

Timeless Design with Contemporary Adaptability

Designed with modularity, stackability, and elegant simplicity in mind, Oblikant responds to the needs of contemporary environments - be they conference halls, dining spaces, or collaborative studios. The new upholstered version adds visual softness and acoustic benefits, while staying true to the chair’s essentialist form and minimal material footprint.

Material Integrity Meets Expressive Comfort

The debut of the upholstered version of Oblikant marks an important step in expanding the chair’s aesthetic and functional appeal. It is now available in premium leather and fabric, a carefully chosen material that complements the complex geometry of the shell.

The pronounced curvature of the 2D-molded plywood shell delivers natural elasticity, enhancing seated comfort without the need for complex mechanisms. Combined with a selection of six different base options - four of which are stackable steel frames, and one in solid wood - Oblikant is engineered for versatile use across contract, hospitality, and residential settings.
