Design of urban equipment from Prostoria on the northern Adriatic coast

Prostoria and its development team together with a broad technological base in the factory in Začretje have enabled the development of this urban equipment system and adapted it for the requirements of the project launched by the project Rijeka 2020 - European Capital of Culture and the Municipality of Kostrena. Other partners of the Lungomare Art program are the City of Rijeka, Primorje and Gorski Kotar County, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia and Jadrolinija.

The urban equipment combines a system consisting of showers and locker rooms up to three typologies of benches, ranging from standard benches and love seats to hedonistic lounge chairs. The equipment was placed on an extended observation deck above the western point of the Svežanj bay, thus enabling all residents and visitors of Kostrena to use Prostoria’s products, this time in a public space. The types and functions of the benches were predefined by the functional requirements of the promenade and by the fact that Kostrena is a paradigmatic romantic refuge for the Rijeka agglomeration, immortalized by Zvonimir Krkljuš's famous song from 1955, "A Night in Kostrena." 

The steep coast facing southwest with an extraordinary view of the open sea of Kvarner is an inspiration and an ideal location for prototypes of lounge benches that we hope to see more in the coming years.
