Sofa Revolve wins the 2012 Red Dot Award for product design

The Revolve sofa by Kvadra Design, designed by Numen / For Use in cooperation with Bratović & Borovnjak, was awarded one of the most significant global design awards, namely the Red Dot Award, in the product design 2012 category. Out of 4515 competing products, among which were the world's greatest companies and designers, 62 were selected for the award. This makes Kvadra the first company of the Croatian furniture industry that has won this prestigious design award, having met the quality criteria of the expert panel made up of no less than 30 judges. One of them was Stefan Diez, currently one of the leading German product designers. However, the significance of this award is even greater in the context of an unproductive country like Croatia, where Kvadra not only invests in industrial production, its own brand and export to foreign markets, but also increases the number of its employees accordingly.

The formal ceremony of presenting the Red Dot Awards will take place in Essen, on 2 July, 2012, in the world-renowned Aalto theatre, while the following day will mark the opening of the awarded product exhibition in the Red Dot Design Museum. The museum is part of the Nordrhein-Westfalen design centre which organises the whole project.

"This award serves as an acknowledgement of the investments we have made so far in production development, technology and knowledge, design included. After only 7 months of production, we launched a whole collection for the international market, while the Revolve sofa has been acknowledged by the world's top innovation and design experts of the Red Dot Award. This award is not only meant for the Revolve sofa, it is meant for the quality standard of Kvadra's production. Our production team has cooperated with designers to develop a special metal mechanism that enables a simple transformation of this sofa from a sitting position into a sleeping position," states Kvadra Design CEO Tomislav Knezović.

The expert judges awarded the innovative design of the Revolve sofa, which was created by Numen / For Use in cooperation with Roberta Bratović & Ivana Borovnjak. Its innovativeness is contained in the form which follows the function of a simple 180-degree-transformation from a sitting sofa to a sleeping bed which is possible owing to, among other, the filling equal to the one in self-standing mattresses. Revolve, as well as the rotation mechanism itself, is completely covered in fabric. The rotation is achieved by simply pulling the leather handle on the armrest. Its dynamic form and double function make the Revolve sofa suitable not only for furnishing homes, but also business premises and vacation homes.

On this occasion, Nikola Radeljković stated the following before the entire team of Numen / For Use + Bratović & Borovnjak: "When it comes to the concept and visual communication category, the Red Dot Award represents no special achievement in itself. On the other hand, for the unproductive context of contemporary Croatia, a Red Dot Award for the innovative industrial product of a new company stands for a new paradigm in Croatia, it is proof that courage and systematic work with designers pays off in many ways."

Along with other products from Kvadra Design's collection, the Revolve sofa was presented on the international market at the furniture fair – IMM Cologne 2012 in January - for the first time, after which its export into the EU and Asian countries was launched. In Croatia, the sofa is available in all Kvadra Design salons.
