Unwrapping Rei and Buffa at Salone del Mobile 2024
During Milan Design Week 2024, Prostoria introduces classic lounge Rei and sculptural playful sofa Buffa, new designs created in collaboration with Numen/ForUse. Considering ours is the time of great domestication, where comfort is the king and cushion its ultimate symbol, Rei & Buffa are a feat of immediate comfort.

Our long term designers Numen/For Use have also created an immersive Net installation for Porsche’s Art of Dreams initiative. The installation, titled “Lines of Flight”, was fully manufactured by Prostoria and can be experienced at the Palazzo Clerici during the forthcoming Milan Design Week.
Rei – classic lounge chair
Designed to be the anchor of a room, Rei lounge or club chair with the pouf function as a focal point, defines and grounds the space around it into a zone of personal ritual. Inspired by the abandon of free jazz but cast in the spirit of functional modernism, Rei embodies a formal tension between rigidity and plasticity in its sleek and flowing layout. It’s the Prostoria’s answer to the classic lounge or club chair and is a feat of refined simplicity and certain lightness of form.
Its name is a nod to Ray Eames as much as to Ray Charles or the giant oceanic manta. With its flexible and contouring shell of moulded plywood, contrasted by the soft padding of differing heights and paired with a lounge ottoman, it keeps blurring the ever more fluid distinction of home vs. work or private vs. public.
Sofa Buffa - a hypertrophy of a pillow
The entire sofa is a hypertrophy of a pillow. It is a puffy, distended shape that suggests immediate comfort. It was about abandoning a classic sleek and angular style, and making a distinct shift towards the soft, rounded line to create a sofa that does not need to be tamed or appeased with cushions. Buffa is of a very sculptural appearance, with an element of caprice embodied in its jester “horns” and indulgent curves, yet also a quintessential place to wind down and catch one’s breath; round, tactile and luxurious.
Even its armrest is actually a headrest, ergonomically designed to support supine position and fend off harsh reality. The corner seat can be included to produce a deeper seating surface. The sofa comes paired with a complimenting lounge chair which can also function as an independent piece, one especially suited for public contexts.Part of the collection is a comfortable armchair, which can be used independently of a sofa and is particularly suitable for public spaces. The armchair has several options, with and without armrests, fixed and rotating, and in combination with a stool.
